Discover the wine region of Cowichan Valley, about 40 minutes outside of downtown Victoria.
The Cowichan Valley’s prolific agricultural region is home to 15 wineries, Canada’s first estate cidery and outstanding balsamic vinegar! The cool climate lends itself well to a number of varietals, including Pinot Gris, Ortega, Gewurztraminer, Muller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Marechal Foch.
Island Time Tours visits 3 wineries on their Cowichan Valley tour, with 4 to 7 tastes at each stop. Along the way you’ll enjoy mountain vistas, forests and panoramic ocean views. Included is a local artisanal charcuterie picnic, dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice, and your knowledgeable guide will share the history of the region.
Tours are $139 per person and are approximately 6 hours. Tours run Wednesday through Sunday February through December.
Hike Victoria Guided Tours – Salmon Run
Experience the natural beauty of Victoria with a local photographer and long time resident, as he shares his favourite vistas and Victoria’s hidden gems.
The Goldstream Salmon Run is world class, with 3 species of salmon, numbering in the 10’s of thousands, that return to the place of their birth. Visit the lower Goldstream River to see massive numbers of Chum Salmon, and some of the other creatures that benefit from the salmon life cycle, including seagulls, eagles, raccoons, otters, mink, black bears. The Visitor’s Centre has fascinating exhibits, and a good viewpoint of the estuary where eagles can be seen. Drive to a spectacular viewpoint 360 meters high. Along the way back stop at Niagara Falls – 45 meters (156 feet) high, where your photo can be taken by our professional photographer! A flat and easy walk, total distance is about 1.5km (almost 1 mile). This trip runs rain or shine, so hiking boots or runners and water proof jackets are recommended, umbrellas are supplied.
Salmon Run hikes begin October 30 until November 30, departing daily from 8.30am to 1.00pm, and costs $60pp
